General Practice

Our General Practice Services Include:

Consultations

Initial consultations at Pet Medical are approximately 20 minutes and by appointment. In embracing our Pet Medical mantra of low stress handling, we have separate consult rooms individually designed for dogs and cats.

When you arrive with your dog you can pop them on the scales to check their weight.

For our feline friends we have a special cat table for you to place your cat on. Cats can feel particularly vulnerable when visiting the vets and can become anxious and stressed when taken out of their home environment. A cat’s instinct is to find higher ground. Placing up high will make them feel a little more secure when they come to visit.

As Pet Medical is a hospital, we do see pets with contagious illnesses. We try to isolate them as quickly as possible. It is best not to let your pet mingle with others while waiting.

If you require special assistance with your pet, please let us know at the time of booking.

Microchipping

A microchip is an essential part of owning a pet. A microchip is the size of a grain of rice and contains a unique code that is linked to the pet registry.

If your pet is ever lost and is taken to a vet or local Ranger they can scan the microchip and retrieve the pet’s name, address, owner details and get in contact with you and return them safely back home.

Microchipping is compulsory in all Australian states.

Parasites

Parasites such as fleas, ticks, mosquitoes and intestinal parasites if left untreated can cause serious health problems for our pets.

The most common parasites are:

  • Heartworm
  • Paralysis ticks
  • Fleas
  • Intestinal worms

Types of treatment available:

  • Annual injections
  • Topical applications
  • Shampoos & sprays
  • Tablets & chews
  • Collars

Together we can create a suitable product and prevention plan to suit your pets needs. Remember – a preventable treatment plan is key to providing your pet with a happy & healthy lifestyle.

Dog & Cat Desexing

The desexing age is usually performed around 5 to 6 months of age for smaller dogs and with larger dog breeds we wait until they are a little larger.

For cats, desexing can be done from 6 months of age.

Desexing prevents your pet from unwanted pregnancies, undesirable behaviours, and certain cancers such as ovarian, testicular cancers and mammary tumours.

Nutrition

Pet Medical has a variety of food to suit your pets need. We stock prescription and diet foods for your pets’ specific condition as well as nutrition for pocket pets such as rabbits and guinea pigs.

Choosing the right pet food can often be overwhelming and our team are here to help pick out the best options for your pet.

The right food minimises health risks, poor diet, and obesity. Choosing the right food for your pet will give them a healthy skin, shiny coat, assist with digestive issues and potentially increase their life span.

Dermatology

Cats and dogs can have many different dermatology or skin conditions.

At Pet Medical we have in-house laboratory testing available for diagnostic treatment to do a full work up on skin testing, allergy, ear infections parasites and lumps.

We stock products such as flea, tick, treatment shampoos, prescription diets and food supplements to help regulate troubled skin conditions.

Behaviour

At Pet Medical our team are available to give behaviour consults, dispense medications and discuss any anxiety, storm phobia issues your pet maybe experiencing.
